1. It May Support Relaxation. Bananas contain magnesium and potassium, two minerals involved in normal muscle and nerve function. Although these nutrients are important, eating a banana before bed hasn’t been conclusively shown to make people fall asleep faster. 2. It Provides Minerals Needed for Muscle Function. Potassium and magnesium help maintain healthy muscle activity. However, there’s limited evidence that eating bananas specifically prevents nighttime leg cramps, which can have several underlying causes.

3. It Provides a Convenient Evening Snack. A medium banana contains natural carbohydrates and fiber, making it a practical option when you’re slightly hungry before bedtime. Pairing it with Greek yogurt or a small handful of nuts adds protein and may help moderate the blood sugar response. However, people with diabetes should consider portion size and their individual dietary recommendations. A banana isn’t a reliable treatment for preventing nighttime hypoglycemia.
